Our History

The great furniture produced in the past inspired Evan John Philp to start EJP Furniture in Auckland in 1976. In a time when things were becoming more disposable, Evan sought to replicate the quality of a former era, while keeping up with modern trends. In fact, Evan made the first 2 seater sofas in New Zealand; available in denim or chocolate cord. Things have moved on a bit since then, but the company’s desire to make quality handcrafted furniture and deliver value for money remains.

In 1996 EJP opened a branch in Brisbane, Australia to service the interior design market along with large project sectors. To this day, the factory is renowned for it’s ability to produce one-off custom work, while also being able to deliver production runs for large projects throughout the world.

Our Auckland factory is run by Evan's son, Conan Philp and the Brisbane branch is still managed by Evan Philp. This allows EJP Furniture to deliver products for projects across both countries, where the commercial and hospitality market is increasingly interwoven.

Over the last 40 years, EJP has endured the many changes facing our industry. While other companies have come and gone, we have constantly evolved to meet these challenges, and still continue to produce locally made, quality furniture that we are proud of.  Because like our company, our love of beautiful furniture and great design remains strong.

We strongly believe that value for money can be acheived without compromising the integrity or quality of our furniture and service.
